Touchdown Celebration
I recently read an article about a high school team in Pennsylvania who lost the state championship because a "questionable call by a referee. What happened was on the last play of the game the this team scored a touchdown to, at first, win the game, but as he was running the player raised his hand up for a brief moment to celebrate and put it down. The referee threw a flag on the player for taunting which wiped away the touchdown and cost the team the state championship. Many people think that the referee should not have thrown the flag and let the touchdown stand. I am split on my opinion here. As a player I would be upset because what he did did not affect the run or the play and the flag shouldn't have brought back the touchdown. But the rule in high school says no taunting and if the referee thought he was taunting then he had every right to throw the flag.
Lebron James
Now I am going to start by stating that I am not a big Lebron James fan but I believe he is the best player in the league so I should talk about him. My opinion on why Lebron struggles so much in the playoffs and in the 4th quarter is because he tries to impress everyone to much. He wants so much to be liked by fans, players, coaches, everyone, that I believe it has affected his game. He needs to take a few lessons from Kobe Bryant. I have so much respect for Bryant, because he works hard and is one of the most clutch players in NBA history, and he wins. I'm not saying that Lebron doesn't work hard but the main difference is that Kobe doesn't care what people think. He just goes out and plays hard every night and he doesn't care if people are cheering him or booing him. Lebron needs to learn to do this and just play his game no matter what people are saying or doing.
Prince Fielder
Now that the best free agent in the MLB, Albert Pujols, has signed with the Angels, where will Prince Fielder end up. Fielder last year was a finalist for the National League MVP and one of the most feared hitters in baseball. After what the Angels did today, the team that needs Fielder the most is the Texas Rangers. These two teams are in the same division and with the addition of Pujols and former Rangers ace pitcher C.J. Wilson the Angels are considered the favorite to not only win the division but also the World Series. If the Rangers can sign Fielder it will give even more power to an already dangerous lineup and will create a Red Sox-Yankees like rivalry out west.
Oklahoma City Thunder
As the start of the NBA season approaches, everyone is asking, "who will win the NBA championship?" My answer is the Oklahoma City Thunder. Yes people know about their two superstars Russel Westbrook and Kevin Durant. But the two people who will get them to the top are swingman James Harden and forward Serge Ibaka. Westbrook and Durant will get their points and do what they do, but Harden, who has been coming off the bench, I believe will start more games this season and score 15-20 points a game. That gives the Thunder three people who can score 20 points in their starting lineup. And Ibaka is the most underrated shot blocker in the NBA. With him keeping people from the basket teams will be forced to shoot more outside, therefore dropping their field goal percentage. This team is a force to be reckoned with and will make the move as NBA champions very soon.
Paul to the Lakers
Earlier today Chris Paul was reportedly traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in a three way trade involving the New Orleans Hornets and Houston Rockets. This trade would have a been a blockbuster trade and would have vaulted the already talented Lakers straight to the top. But recent sources reported that several NBA owners called commissioner David Stern and requested to stop the trade, which he did for now. The reason for the owners doing this is because they don't want large market teams such as the Lakers to load up on all of the superstars. Honestly, is it the Lakers fault they have more fans and make more money? No! I am in no way a Lakers fan but if a team has the money and the means to get these superstar players they should be allowed to. Let the trade happen.
2007 Brady vs. 2011 Rodgers
After Tom Brady had his record breaking season in 2007 where he threw 50 touchdown passes, i never thought anyone would have a better season than that. And as big of a Tom Brady fan that I am, I would have to say that Aaron Rodgers is looking as good or better than Brady. Rodgers is making everything look easy. But can he keep up his record pace and challenge Brady's records? We shall have to wait and see.
2011 Packers
Can the Packers be the first team in NFL history to go 19-0 and win the Superbowl? My opinion is no. Yes they are by far the best team in the NFL. But they are too one dimensional. They don't have a running game, their defense gives up too many yards and points, and their passing game I don't think will be able to keep up their scoring as the weather gets colder. Watch for a team like the 49ers who can play smash mouth defense and can pound the ball on the ground to beat them in the playoffs.
BCS
I know everyone complains about the BCS and how "flawed" it is. But really is it flawed? Can anyone really argue that LSU and Alabama aren't the two best teams in the nation? I say pretty much every year the BCS has gotten the best two teams in the nation to play for the national title. Isn't that what we want? Why are we complaining about it? We should be complaining about how the NCAA Basketball tournament usually does not have the two best teams in the country. Just think about that.
The NBA
Christmas could not get any better this year. Not only do I get to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year but I get to celebrate it watching my favorite sport, the NBA. After a nearly 6 month lockout the Players Association and the NBA owners finally agreed a new Collective Bargaining Agreement, meaning the NBA will start on Christmas day. No better way to celebrate the start of the season.
Pujols to the Angels
Finally, someone other than the Red Sox or Yankees land the best free agent available. Today, Albert Pujols agreed to a 10 year contract with the Anaheim Angels worth $250 Million. Are things changing in the MLB? Are other teams stepping into the spotlight besides the Yankees or Red Sox? It looks like it. Let's wait and see how this move turns out for the Angels.
